Divisibility Rule of 92

Professor Greenline Explaining Math Concepts

The divisibility rule is a way to find out whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 92.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 92?

The divisibility rule for 92 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 92 or not without using the division method. Check whether 8280 is divisible by 92 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: Divide the number into two parts, the last two digits and the rest. Here in 8280, 80 is the last part, and 82 is the remaining part.

Step 2: Subtract twice the last two digits from the remaining part. That is, 82 - (2 × 80) = 82 - 160 = -78.

Step 3: Since -78 is not divisible by 92, 8280 is not divisible by 92. If the result from step 2 were a multiple of 92, then the number would be divisible by 92.divisibility rule of 92

Tips and Tricks for Divisibility Rule of 92

Learning the divisibility rule will help kids master division. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks for the divisibility rule of 92.

  • Know the multiples of 92: Memorize the multiples of 92 (92, 184, 276, 368, 460, etc.) to quickly check divisibility. If the result from the subtraction is a multiple of 92, then the number is divisible by 92.

  • Use the negative numbers: If the result we get after the subtraction is negative, we will avoid the symbol and consider it as positive for checking the divisibility of a number.

  • Repeat the process for large numbers: Students should keep repeating the divisibility process until they reach a small number that is divisible by 92.

For example, check if 1840 is divisible by 92 using the divisibility test. Divide into two parts: last two digits are 40, and remaining is 18. Subtract twice the last two digits from the remaining part: 18 - (2 × 40) = 18 - 80 = -62. Repeat: 62 is not divisible by 92, so 1840 is not divisible by 92.

  • Use the division method to verify: Students can use the division method as a way to verify and cross-check their results. This will help them to verify and also learn.
