What is the Divisibility Rule of 84?

The divisibility rule for 84 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 84 or not without using the division method. To determine if a number is divisible by 84, it must be divisible by its prime factors: 2, 3, and 7. Check whether 168 is divisible by 84 with the divisibility rule.

 

Step 1: Apply the divisibility rule for 2. Check if the last digit is even. In 168, 8 is even, so it is divisible by 2.


Step 2: Apply the divisibility rule for 3. Sum the digits of the number, i.e., 1+6+8=15. Since 15 is divisible by 3, 168 is divisible by 3.


Step 3: Apply the divisibility rule for 7. Double the last digit and subtract it from the rest of the number. Here, 8×2=16, and 16 subtracted from 16 (the remaining digits) is 0, which is a multiple of 7.

 

Since 168 is divisible by 2, 3, and 7, it is divisible by 84.
