Tips and tricks to learn multiplication tables

Multiplication is a part of basic math skills, so it is significant to learn multiplication tables. To learn tables faster, follow the tips and tricks mentioned below.

  • Memorization is one of the effective methods to learn tables. Memorizing multiplication tables makes it easy to do complex multiplication.

  • While introducing multiplication tables to kids, try to use exclusive multiplication tables for kids. Because visual representations can easily attract kids.

  • A multiplication table can be understood through repeated addition. For example, in the multiplication table of 2,

the same repeated addition can be followed in all the tables.

  • The result of the tables with ends with the number 0 like 10, 20, 30, etc. We can multiply the number in tens place with the multiplier and then add 0 to the end. For example, 10 × 5 = 50 can be calculated as 1 × 5 = 5, and if we add a 0 gives the result of 50.

  • Multiplication has a commutative property, i.e., a × b = b × a

For example, 5 × 3 = 15, 3 × 5 = 15.

  • When multiplying larger numbers is difficult. So break down the number to avoid errors. For example,

25 × 5 = 125

It can be split into,

(20 × 5) + (5 × 5)

= 100 + 25 = 125.
