What are the factors of 160

The numbers when multiplied gives 160 as the product are the factors of 160. 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 16, 20, 32, 40, 80, and 160, are the factors of 160.

Negative factors of 160: The negative counterpart of a positive factor is the negative factor. The negative counterparts of the factors of 160 are -1, -2, -4, -5, -8, -10, -16, -20, -32, -40, -80, and -160. Hence, these are the negative factors of 160

Prime factors of 160:The number that can only be divided by 1 and the number itself is a prime number.
The prime factors of 160 are 25 × 5

Finding factors using multiplication method

In the multiplication method the pair of numbers are identified, when multiplied it gives 160 as a product.

Step 1: find all the numbers whose product is 160

Step 2: group the numbers as pairs and make a list

Factors of 160:

1 × 160 = 160

2 × 80 =160

4 × 40 =160

5 × 32=160

8 × 20=160

10 ×16 =160

So the pair of numbers will be (1,160), (2,80), (4,40), (5,32), (8,20), (10,16).

Finding factors by division method

Here we check which number evenly divides 160. Here we divide the 160 until we cannot divide it anymore

Factors of 160 using division method:

160 / 1 =160

160 / 2 =80

160 / 4 =40

160 / 5 =32

160 / 8 = 20

160 / 10 =16

Prime factors and prime factorization

The number which only has one and the number itself as factors are the prime numbers. The prime factorization is a process of breaking down the number into its prime factors. When we multiply the prime factors, the product should be the number itself.

Prime factors of 160 are 2 and 5

Let's check how to find the prime factors of 160

Step 1: Here we are supposed to divide 160 with its least prime factor. That is 160 / 2 =80

Step 2: The quotient received from step 1 is further divided by the next least prime number. The process continues till we receive a prime number as remainder.

80 / 2 =40

40 / 2 =20

20 / 2 =10

10 / 2 =5

The remainder is 5 and it's a prime number.

Therefore, the prime factors of 160 are 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 5 (25 × 5)

Factor pairs

Factor a pair is the pair of factors. The product of the pair will be the number.

Positive factor pairs of 160: (1, 160), (2, 80), (4, 40), (5, 32), (8,20) and (10, 16)

Negative factor pairs of 160: (-1, -160), (-2, -80), (-4, -40), (-5, -32), (-8, -20) and (-10, -16)
