Minecraft offers its players several distinct and beautiful biomes which add to the visual aesthetics of the game apart from their functionality.

A  biome is a region in a world with distinct geographical features, flora, temperatures, humidity ratings, and sky, water, grass, and foliage colors. Biomes separate every generated world into different environments, such as forests, deserts, and taigas.

There are more than 60 different types of biomes in Minecraft right now, and they can be put into five main groups: lush, snowy, dry, cold, and ocean.

Some biomes don’t generate as often as others, which makes players want to find them even more. Some of these biomes even have blocks that you can’t find anywhere else in Minecraft.

Home to the beautiful terracotta blocks in Minecraft, Badlands, a warm multi-colored biome is different and offers many exclusive items.

Let’s know more about this biome and the interesting elements that it adds to Minecraft.

What is Badlands?

The Badlands, commonly known as the Mesa biome, is one of the rarest and most distinctive biomes in Minecraft. They have the look of orange-and-brown canyons with several layers of terracotta and a cap of red sand.

This biome was first added to the game in version 1.7.2 “The Update that Changed the World.”

Terracotta can only be discovered in enormous amounts in the Badlands, which are the only areas in the game where it occurs naturally. In order to locate the gold ores, mineshaft construction can be approached from the surface. This is well above the depths at which gold ore is generally found.

Something unusual about this biome is that there are no passive mobs, despite the abundance of rare building materials and gold ore found in all the badlands biomes.

In addition, the lack of trees, grass, and water makes it challenging to cultivate food. Only the forested badlands have grass and trees

Some other striking feature of this environment is that lightning strikes are not conceivable because it never rains because it is a dry habitat. The rivers that run through the badlands are outliers, where it still has the potential to rain and produce lightning. During bad weather, thunderstorms still cause the sky to darken as normal and a hostile mob to spawn.

What are the Variants of Minecraft Badlands?

In previous versions, this biome was accompanied by three more types: badlands plateau, modified badlands plateau, and modified wooded badlands plateau.

However, in recent versions, there are three types of badland biomes: badlands, wooded badlands, and eroded badlands

  1. Badlands

The top layer of soil in the standard badlands biome consists of red sand, and there are vast mounds of terracotta in a variety of hues.

A few layers down, you’ll find that the sand and clay are replaced with stone and ores. The dunes are dotted with cacti and decaying shrubs. In addition, it is possible to create peaks that are higher, more jagged, and sharper.

This biome is usually found alongside desert biomes and it can generate in mountainous terrain. You can learn more about biome via coding & robotics for kids courses.

Gold ore also occurs more frequently, because additional blobs can generate within badlands up to y=256. The composition of this biome is useful when other sources of terracotta and gold are scarce.

  1. Wooded Badlands

High up in the wooded badlands, away from easy reach, there are groves of trees. On the uppermost layers of the land, oak trees grow on large patches of grass and rough dirt.

Here, the grass and oak leaves are a dull greenish-brown color that is darker than in the Savanna biome. This gives the area the appearance of being dry, and all of the trees that grow naturally are small.

In the otherwise empty badlands, this type of tree is a rare source of wood in comparison to the other barren and lifeless badlands. This version of the badlands is generated at higher humidity levels than the default badlands. This means that it often borders jungles or has lush caves underground.

  1. Eroded Badlands

Finally, the eroded badlands biome is the most spectacular of all – with large, narrow spires called “Hoodoos” that mimic the stunning rock formations found in the real world in places like Utah, Alberta, Turkey, Armenia, Taiwan, and Serbia.

Terracotta hoodoos are distinctive formations that may be seen in eroded badlands. These hoodoos are thin spires that come up from the red sand bottoms of the drainage basins found in this biome.

In the Bedrock Edition, this location is capable of spawning non-hostile creatures. This environment was designed to seem like the renowned Bryce Canyon in Utah, which is located in the United States. Bryce Canyon is filled with hoodoos.

How to find Badlands in Minecraft?

Now that we have acquainted ourselves with the type of badlands that Minecraft offers, we can talk about a general method on how to find badlands.

In the spawn area, there are badlands. In Minecraft, the Badlands biome isn’t often easy to come by, so this seed will put you in the middle of something truly special. You may take advantage of terrain creation in Minecraft version 1.18, which provides us with beautiful mountains and hills in the desert.

The plateaus of the Badlands are enormous, flat-topped hills with high cliffs and narrow gorges.

The plateaus in the modified badlands are smaller and have more difficult topography. If you’re in need of wood, then find a badlands plateau with oak trees or a modified version with fewer trees if you’re not in the badlands.

Mineshafts generate at a much higher elevation in these biomes, often exposed to fresh air. Apparently, their supporting planks and fences are made of dark oak rather than oak.

Additionally, gold ore generates up to elevation Y=255 (rather than the normal Y=32), and at much higher rates than the rest of the world, making badlands tunnels excellent sources of gold.

The best approach to discovering a mineshaft is to explore the badland biome. The badlands biome, on the other hand, is one of the game’s most difficult to locate. Players that are lucky enough to spawn in this biome will be rewarded with valuable resources.

Alternatively, you may input your seed into mineatlas and record any nearby mesa locations, then either visit the location to see whether the badlands variation is there or go on to the next location.

The modified jungle edge biome is thought to be the rarest biome in all of Minecraft. This biome only takes up 0.0001% of the overworld or about one in a million square miles. A modified jungle biome must be next to a swamp hills biome for this biome to happen. This biome is home to ocelots, pandas, parrots, and a lot more.

Conclusion

In Minecraft, the Badlands biome is one of the most unique and difficult biomes to find. They have the appearance of canyons that are orange and brown in color, and they contain numerous layers of terracotta and a crown of red sand.

In spite of the large quantities of gold ore and gold ore that can be discovered across all of the Badlands biomes, there are no passive creatures.

Finding the Badlands biome might be one of the more challenging aspects of the game. The plateaus of the Badlands are massive, level-topped hills that are surrounded on all sides by steep cliffs and deep valleys.

In this blog, we brought you some tips and tricks on where you can find badlands and the various advantages that you get once you find them.
