Amethyst is one of the new crystal materials that was introduced in Minecraft’s Caves and Cliffs update, which should be mined or harvested from special crystal blocks found in specific geode structures.

Amethyst is available in a variety of block types, including shard, cluster, and crystal. Only a few of these are available in the survival mode, but we must have the appropriate tools to mine them.

Amethyst, as well as tinted glass, is a valuable resource for a brand new spyglass tool.

These are used to craft Amethyst blocks for building, decoration, tinted glass for decoration, blocking of light, and Spyglasses which players can be used to view faraway objects.

Amethyst Is Found Inside Geodes

Finding amethyst is not so complicated and it can be generated all over the world.  These geodes are circular structures that are big enough for us to enter them.

The geodes are often cracked, which makes us entering inside them easy, and sometimes they might be completely solid, with a layer of smooth basalt and calcite on the outside, so we need to mine it.

How To Find Amethyst Geodes in Minecraft

Generating Amethyst geodes are quite frequent. Amethyst Geodes most often generate between bedrock level, Y=70, and even spawn at surface level and there is a wide range to search for them.

The easiest method of finding geodes is to simply hop onto a boat and try to travel the ocean biomes.

With the help of a Night Vision, it is very easy to spot geodes from the surface level and then dive down into them. Or else we have to blindly mine in caves and hope to run into anyone among them.

How To Get Amethyst Shards in Minecraft

Instead of the geode’s solid walls, we can see large clusters and small buds growing on the walls, floors, and ceiling inside.

These small pieces are called amethyst buds, and they come in three sizes: small, medium, and large.

The final growth stage of a bud turns them into amethyst clusters and it is the only stage that drops amethyst shards unless we have mined the clusters with a Silk Touch pickaxe

Also, when mining for amethyst, make sure that the mining cluster is the largest possible cluster and not the largest amethyst bud.

Ignore the small clusters that are still in the process of growing.

Fully grown amethyst clusters drop amethyst shards. Amethyst shards form when an amethyst bud reaches its final stage of growth and transforms into a cluster.

How many shards we will receive is dependent on the type of tool we use to mine the crystal.

Amethyst Clusters Emit Light

When we first enter a geode, you may notice that there is a bit of light inside it, this is because amethyst clusters and buds emit a small amount of light over it.

Depending on the size of the amethyst bud, the light level sometimes might be stronger or weaker.

The bigger the bud, there will be more light, and the smaller the bud, the less light and vice-versa. Amethyst clusters emit a light level of five, which is the highest among them all.

5 Easiest Ways to Find Amethyst Geodes in Minecraft

  1. Beach

Amethyst geodes are also considered underground structures because they can be found anywhere below Y level 70, but they can also form on the surface.

Beaches in Minecraft are ideal for discovering exposed geodes on the surface because they are usually found at the same height.

  1. Ravines and Mineshafts

If the player is very lucky, they might find a ravine that has an exposed amethyst geode inside of it.

Because geodes can also override mineshafts in the game, players can mostly find geodes inside mineshafts.

Even if a geode is not present inside the mineshaft, players still have a good chance of finding a slightly exposed one.

  1. Mining

Each chunk of Amethyst geode has a 1/53 chance of generating a geode these geodes develop between Y levels 0 and 70. At that level, players can mine and have a good chance of finding one.

The strip-mining method is one of the best for finding a geode, and it can also be used to obtain many other resources. To mine amethyst blocks, players can use any type of tool.

  1. Oceans

Oceans are one of the most common places to find amethyst geodes as the average sea level is Y 63 in Minecraft

Unless and until the player is very unlucky, they can easily find geodes in the ocean by simply exploring them on a boat and mine the blocks they desire to have.

  1. Caves

Amethyst geodes override the caves present in Minecraft worlds. This might change with the arrival of the Caves & Cliffs update Part 2, but for now,  exploring caves is also one of the easiest methods of finding an Amethyst geode.

As Amethyst geodes generate below Y level 70, players must look inside caves at that height.

Conclusion

Amethyst is a decorative block in Minecraft that is made from four Amethyst shards. To make an Amethyst block, we must first locate Amethyst clusters.

These clusters are the fourth and final growth stage of amethyst buds, from which amethyst shards are extracted. It is known as an Amethyst bud during its first three stages.

We must mine Amethyst shards once we have located an Amethyst cluster. Amethyst is typically found between the bedrock and Y=70, but you might be lucky and come across one partially exposed on the surface.
