Ancient debris is the rarest ore block in the game. It was added in 1.16 for Java edition and bedrock edition. Ancient Debris is generally found exclusively in the Nether in between y = 8 and y = 119. It floats on lava in item form. Ancient Debris can be moved by a piston.

ANCIENT DEBRIS

Ancient debris generates in the Nether in the form of veins of one to four blocks. It is obtained when mined with a diamond pickaxe or better. Although, in some cases, ancient debris generates under a twisting vine and is visible from the surface as well. It’s worth noting that the Fortune enchantment does not work on ancient debris, just like iron and gold ore. Engaging in the process of mining ancient debris not only contributes to resource collection in Minecraft but also plays a role in skill development for players using advanced tools and strategic mining techniques.

Players must turn ancient debris into netherite scraps, which they then turn into netherite Ingots. These Ingots can be used for crafting. Ancient debris drops itself if mined by a diamond or netherite pickaxe. Ancient debris does not drop by using any other tool.

Easiest ways to find Ancient Debris

  1. Bed method

It is an easy method to mine ancient debris quickly. Players can combine the Bed method and TNT method to make it more efficient. In this approach, the player does not need to mine extensively. To enhance safety during the explosions, players should develop good habits for kids by utilizing lots of beds to cover themselves from the damage. Additionally, it could be a good idea to carry Totems of Undying, blast-proof armor, and potions of fire resistance for personal protection, promoting responsible and cautious gameplay.

In this method, some steps need to be followed to find Ancient debris. The first step is mining, where players need to mine all the way to y = 15, as there is the highest concentration of Ancient debris in the exposed blocks.

Players then need to craft a significant number of beds. Put any remaining wool and boards in other storage if your inventory is full. Start a tunnel mine after that. At every 16th block and player need to mine 1*1*5 tunnels and then place a bed at the end of the side tunnel. The bed has an explosion power of 5.

After the explosion, players would find up to 3 ancient debris in the exposed blocks. But along with that nether gold ore might also break, by dropping gold nuggets you can collect. But we were aware of nearby piglins that were angered with these mining blocks.

  1. Branch mining

Branch mining is one more way to find ancient debris in mine craft. Once the player has been reached at layer 15, the player can try to look for ancient debris by doing the branch mining method.

Branch mining requires digging out 2*2 tunnels from a center space and then mine to form branches.  Diamond pickaxe is one of the armor to do this. For getting ancient debris properly, players need to use diamond pickaxe with at least an efficiency II, mending and unbricking III is recommended.

Branch mining can be started by digging in one direction until lava is encountered, then changing directions and digging once again.

Branch mining is better and more effective than the bed method for locating ancient Minecraft waste.

  1. Chunk border mining

If your X and Z coordinates are multiple of 16, it means the player is in the corner of a chunk. In the Java edition players find out the most ancient debris on a chunk border.

Rather than just digging at y= 15, ancient debris generated more at chunk borders. Players can use the short key F3+G in Java edition and go to an X and Z coordinates that is multiple of 16 in Bedrock.

Once the player reaches y = 15, then the player can either strip mine or mine a tunnel and use TNT to explode. Players can mine a 2*2 tunnel and bed-bomb the area, attempting to mine out a few blocks. Repeat this process to create an optimal distance between branches of 8-10 blocks. For an educational twist, parents or educators can incorporate math games for kids, challenging them to calculate the best distances or strategize the most efficient use of resources in this mining process.

Also available to players are TNT mines. The player can place TNT on every other block and mine a 2*1 tunnel for as long as they choose. Finally, detonate the TNT to start a large chain reaction. The player can then simply mine pieces of ancient rubbish. If the player is too close to the TNT, this strategy can be a little dangerous, so keep your distance and carry a totem. Using blast-resistant blocks, players can also fortify a wall for protection.

When you go through your nether portal to find out ancient debris, make sure you have your coordinates visible (press F3 on PC for java edition and toggle the show coordinates option in your settings for bedrock edition) So you can find an appropriate y-level to begin mining. Players need to make note of nether portal’s coordinates so they can get home easily!
