In the Indian numbering system, the numerals are named on the basis of their place values. Such as ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, lakhs and crores. While in an international numbering system we use the words as a million, a billion and so on instead of lakh and crore.

In an Indian Numbering System, the value of a digit depends on the position of the number, where each digit has a different value. Starting from the right side, the first digit represents ones, followed by tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousand, lakhs, and crores.

 

For example, the number 2,34,56,789 is written as two crores, thirty-four lakh, fifty-six thousand, seven hundred and eighty-nine. In this number, 9 is in ones place, 8 is in the tens place, 7 is in the hundreds places and so on).
