Divisibility Rule of 26

Professor Greenline Explaining Math Concepts

The divisibility rule is a way to find out whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 26.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 26?

The divisibility rule for 26 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 26 or not without using the division method. Check whether 312 is divisible by 26 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: Check if the number is divisible by both 2 and 13. For 312, first check divisibility by 2: since the last digit is 2 (an even number), it is divisible by 2.

Step 2: Now check divisibility by 13. Sum all the digits of 312: 3 + 1 + 2 = 6. Since 6 is not divisible by 13, 312 is not divisible by 26.divisibility rule of 26

Tips and Tricks for Divisibility Rule of 26

Learning divisibility rules will help kids master division. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks for the divisibility rule of 26.

  • Know the multiples of 26: Memorize the multiples of 26 (26, 52, 78...etc.) to quickly check divisibility. If the number is a multiple of both 2 and 13, then it is divisible by 26.

  • Use the sum of digits for 13: If a number is divisible by 13, the sum of its digits also needs to be checked for divisibility by 13.

  • Repeat the process for large numbers: Students should keep repeating the divisibility process by checking divisibility with 2 and 13 until they reach a conclusion. For example, check if 1040 is divisible by 26. First, check for 2: the last digit is 0, so 1040 is divisible by 2. Next, check for 13: 1 + 0 + 4 + 0 = 5, which is not divisible by 13, so 1040 is not divisible by 26.

  • Use the division method to verify: Students can use the division method as a way to verify and crosscheck their results. This will help them verify and also learn.
