The divisibility rule is a way to determine whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 104.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 104?

The divisibility rule for 104 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 104 without using the division method. Check whether 2080 is divisible by 104 with the divisibility rule

Step 1: Check if the number is divisible by both 8 and 13, as 104 is the product of these two factors (104 = 8 × 13).

Step 2: To check divisibility by 8, verify if the last three digits of the number form a number divisible by 8. For example, in 2080, the last three digits are 080, which is divisible by 8.

Step 3: To check divisibility by 13, sum the digits in groups of two from right to left, alternately adding and subtracting, and check if the result is divisible by 13. For 2080, (20 - 80 = -60) is not divisible by 13, so 2080 is not divisible by 104.

Tips and Tricks for Divisibility Rule of 104

Learning the divisibility rules for 8 and 13 will help students apply the rule for 104 effectively. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks.

  • Know the multiples of 104: Memorize the multiples of 104 (104, 208, 312, etc.) to quickly check divisibility. If the number matches or is a multiple, it is divisible by 104.

  • Use the basic divisibility rules: Remember the specific rules for 8 and 13. If a number is divisible by both, it is divisible by 104.

  • Repeat the process for large numbers: If the number is large, break it down into smaller sections to apply the rules of 8 and 13 separately and check the divisibility.

  • Use the division method to verify: Students can use the division method to verify and crosscheck their results, reinforcing their understanding of divisibility.
