Divisibility Rule of 658

The divisibility rule for 658 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 658 or not without using the division method.

Step 1: Multiply the last digit of the number by 2. Here in 1974, 4 is the last digit, multiply it by 2. 4 × 2 = 8 

Step 2: Subtract the result from Step 1 from the remaining values but do not include the last digit. i.e., 197–8 = 189.

Step 3: As it is shown that 189 is not a multiple of 658, therefore, the number is not divisible by 658. If the result from Step 2 is a multiple of 658, then the number is divisible by 658.

• Know the multiples of 658:  Memorize the multiples of 658 (658, 1316, 1974, 2632, etc.) to quickly check the divisibility. If the result from the subtraction is a multiple of 658, then the number is divisible by 658.

  Multiply the last digit by 2, i.e., 6 × 2 = 12.  Subtract 12 from the remaining digits excluding the last digit, 592–12 = 580. 
  
  Still, 580 is a large number, hence we will repeat the process again and multiply the last digit by 2, 0 × 2 = 0.  
  
  Now subtracting 0 from the remaining numbers excluding the last digit, 58–0 = 58.  
  
  Since 58 is not a multiple of 658, 5926 is not divisible by 658.
