What is the Divisibility Rule of 125?

The divisibility rule for 125 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 125 without using the division method. Check whether 5000 is divisible by 125 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: Check the last three digits of the number. If they are 000, 125, 250, 375, 500, 625, 750, or 875, then the number is divisible by 125.

Step 2: In the case of 5000, the last three digits are 000.

Step 3: Since 000 is one of the numbers in the list (000, 125, 250, 375, 500, 625, 750, 875), 5000 is divisible by 125.

Tips and Tricks for Divisibility Rule of 125

Learn the divisibility rule to help master division. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks for the divisibility rule of 125.

  • Know the multiples of 125: Memorize the multiples of 125 (125, 250, 375, 500, 625, 750, 875, 1000, etc.) to quickly check divisibility. If the last three digits form a number in this list, the number is divisible by 125.

  • Use the number's last three digits: Focus on the last three digits of the number and compare them with the multiples of 125. This makes it easy to determine divisibility.

  • Verify with multiplication: If unsure, multiply 125 by any integer to see if it matches the number’s last three digits. For example, 125 × 4 = 500. So, any number ending in 500 is divisible by 125.

  • Use the division method to verify: You can use the division method as a way to verify and crosscheck your results. This will help to confirm your findings and also learn.

  • Repeat the process for large numbers: For large numbers, repeatedly check the last three digits until they match a multiple of 125.
