Divisibility Rule of 521

Professor Greenline Explaining Math Concepts

The divisibility rule is a way to find out whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 521.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 521?

The divisibility rule for 521 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 521 or not without using the division method. Check whether 1563 is divisible by 521 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: Multiply the last digit of the number by 2. In 1563, the last digit is 3, so multiply it by 2. 3 × 2 = 6.

Step 2: Subtract the result from Step 1 from the remaining values, but do not include the last digit. i.e., 156 - 6 = 150.

Step 3: Divide the result from Step 2 by 521. If it divides evenly, the number is divisible by 521. In this case, 150 is not divisible evenly by 521, so 1563 is not divisible by 521.

Problem 1

Is 1563 divisible by 521?

Ray, the Boy Character from BrightChamps Saying "Let’s Begin"

Yes, 1563 is divisible by 521.

Explanation

To check if 1563 is divisible by 521, follow the divisibility check:

1) Multiply the last digit by a factor of the rule, 3 × 3 = 9.

2) Subtract this result from the remaining part of the number, 156 - 9 = 147.

3) Check if 147 is divisible by 521. Since 147 is divisible by 521 (521 × 0 + 147), 1563 is indeed divisible by 521.

Problem 2

Check the divisibility rule of 521 for 2084.

Ray, the Boy Character from BrightChamps Saying "Let’s Begin"

No, 2084 is not divisible by 521.

Explanation

To check the divisibility rule for 2084, proceed as follows:

1) Multiply the last digit by a factor of the rule, 4 × 3 = 12.

2) Subtract this result from the remaining number, 208 - 12 = 196.

3) Determine if 196 is divisible by 521. Since 196 is not divisible by 521, 2084 is not divisible by 521.

Problem 3

Is -3647 divisible by 521?

Ray, the Boy Character from BrightChamps Saying "Let’s Begin"

No, -3647 is not divisible by 521.

Explanation

To check the divisibility, ignore the negative sign and apply the rule:

1) Multiply the last digit by a factor, 7 × 3 = 21.

2) Subtract from the remaining digits, 364 - 21 = 343.

3) Verify divisibility of 343 by 521. Since 343 is not divisible by 521, -3647 is not divisible by 521.

Problem 4

Can 2605 be divisible by 521 following the divisibility rule?

Ray, the Boy Character from BrightChamps Saying "Let’s Begin"

No, 2605 is not divisible by 521.

Explanation

Apply the divisibility rule to 2605:

1) Multiply the last digit by a factor, 5 × 3 = 15.

2) Subtract from the remaining digits, 260 - 15 = 245.

3) Check if 245 is divisible by 521. Since 245 is not divisible by 521, 2605 is not divisible by 521.
