Divisibility Rule of 245

Professor Greenline Explaining Math Concepts

The divisibility rule is a way to find out whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 245.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 245?

The divisibility rule for 245 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 245 or not without using the division method. Check whether 1715 is divisible by 245 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: Check if the number is divisible by 5. Since 1715 ends in 5, it is divisible by 5.

Step 2: Check if the number is divisible by 7. Follow the divisibility rule for 7. Multiply the last digit by 2, here 5×2=10. Subtract this from the rest of the number: 171−10=161. Repeat the process: 1×2=2, and 16−2=14. Since 14 is a multiple of 7, the number is divisible by 7.

Step 3: Check if the number is divisible by 7 and 5, then it must also be divisible by 49 (since 245=5×49). Use the divisibility rule for 49: Keep subtracting 49 until you reach 0 or a negative number. 1715−49×35=0, so it is divisible by 49.

Since 1715 is divisible by 5, 7, and 49, it is divisible by 245.
