The divisibility rule is a way to find out whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 495.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 495?

The divisibility rule for 495 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 495 or not without using the division method. Check whether 7425 is divisible by 495 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: Check if the number is divisible by 5. A number is divisible by 5 if its last digit is 0 or 5. In 7425, the last digit is 5, so it is divisible by 5.

Step 2: Check if the number is divisible by 9. Add all the digits of the number, and see if the sum is divisible by 9. For 7425, 7 + 4 + 2 + 5 = 18, which is divisible by 9.

Step 3: Check if the number is divisible by 11. Subtract the sum of the digits in odd positions from the sum of the digits in even positions. If the result is divisible by 11 or is 0, then the number is divisible by 11. For 7425, (7 + 2) - (4 + 5) = 9 - 9 = 0, which is divisible by 11.

Therefore, since 7425 is divisible by 5, 9, and 11, it is divisible by 495.

Tips and Tricks for Divisibility Rule of 495

Learning the divisibility rule will help kids to master division. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks for the divisibility rule of 495.

  • Know the multiples of 495: Memorize the multiples of 495 (495, 990, 1485...etc.) to quickly check the divisibility. If the number matches a multiple of 495, then it is divisible by 495.

  • Use the rules for 5, 9, and 11: Remember that a number is divisible by 495 if and only if it is divisible by 5, 9, and 11. This can be leveraged for quicker calculations.

  • Repeat the process for large numbers: Students should keep repeating the divisibility process for each component (5, 9, and 11) until they confirm divisibility by all three.

  • Use the division method to verify: Students can use the division method as a way to verify and cross-check their results. This will help them to verify and also learn.
