Divisibility Rule of 266

Professor Greenline Explaining Math Concepts

The divisibility rule is a way to find out whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 266.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 266?

The divisibility rule for 266 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 266 or not without using the division method. Check whether 798 is divisible by 266 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: Check if the number is divisible by 2, 133, and then verify with the number 266.

Step 2: For divisibility by 2, check if the last digit is even. For 798, 8 is even, so it is divisible by 2.

Step 3: For divisibility by 133, apply the rule for 7 and 19 (since 133 = 7 × 19).

First, check divisibility by 7. Multiply the last digit by 2, i.e., 8 × 2 = 16. Subtract this from the remaining number, 79 16 = 63. Since 63 is a multiple of 7, the original number is divisible by 7.

Now, for divisibility by 19, sum the digits of the number repeatedly until a single digit is obtained and check if it's divisible by 19. The original number is 798: 7 + 9 + 8 = 24; 2 + 4 = 6. Since 6 is not a multiple of 19, 798 is not divisible by 19, hence not divisible by 133.

Therefore, 798 is not divisible by 266 as it is not divisible by 133.

Tips and Tricks for Divisibility Rule of 266

Learning the divisibility rule will help kids master division. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks for the divisibility rule of 266.

Know the factors of 266:

Memorize the factors of 266 (2, 7, 19, 133) to quickly check the divisibility. If the number is divisible by all factors, then it is divisible by 266.

Use the rules for smaller factors:

If a number is divisible by 2, 7, and 19, then it is divisible by 266.

Repeat the process for large numbers:

Students should keep repeating the divisibility process for each factor until they confirm divisibility by all factors.

Use the division method to verify:

Students can use the division method as a way to verify and crosscheck their results. This will help them to verify and also learn.
