The divisibility rule is a way to find out whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 476.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 476?

The divisibility rule for 476 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 476 or not without using the division method. Check whether 952 is divisible by 476 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: First, ensure that the number is a multiple of 4, 7, and 6 as 476 is composed of these factors.

For divisibility by 4, the last two digits of the number must be divisible by 4.

For divisibility by 7, apply the divisibility rule of 7 (as described in the original content). For divisibility by 6, the number must be divisible by both 2 and 3.

Step 2: Check the divisibility of 952 by 4. The last two digits are 52, and 52 is divisible by 4.

Step 3: Check the divisibility of 952 by 7. Apply the divisibility rule of 7: Multiply the last digit by 2, i.e., 2 × 2 = 4. Subtract 95 - 4 = 91. Since 91 is a multiple of 7, 952 is divisible by 7.

Step 4: Check divisibility by 6. Since 952 is even, it is divisible by 2. Now check divisibility by 3: Sum of the digits is 9 + 5 + 2 = 16, which is not divisible by 3.

Since 952 is not divisible by 3, it is not divisible by 476.

Tips and Tricks for Divisibility Rule of 476

Learning divisibility rules will help kids master division. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks for the divisibility rule of 476.

  • Know the factors of 476: Memorize the factors of 476 (4, 7, and 6) to quickly check divisibility. If a number is divisible by these factors, it is divisible by 476.

  • Use the negative numbers: If you encounter negative results during calculations, consider the absolute value for checking divisibility.

  • Repeat the process for large numbers: For large numbers, apply the divisibility rules for each factor of 476 until you can confirm divisibility.

  • Use the division method to verify: Use the division method as a way to verify and crosscheck the results. This helps in verifying and also learning.
