The number line is a visual representation of numbers on a line. When the numbers are placed at equal intervals on the number line, it is used for comparing them. The line is infinite and extends on both sides. In a horizontal number line, the numbers increase as we go towards the right, and decrease as we move towards the left.

For example, the decimal number 2.4 falls between the integers 2 and 3. The integers 2 and 3 should be represented on the number line in such a way that the space between 2 and 3 should have 10 equal parts, each part representing 0.1. Here, the marks will represent 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, and so on. Move four spaces after 2, and the fourth mark represents 2.4.
- Fractions on a number line: The number line can be divided into sections based on the fraction’s denominator.
