The Markowitz Matrix turns mathematical thinking into real-world decision-making.Inspired by Harry Markowitz, who showed how numbers can help balance risk and reward, this challenge encourages students to think critically about choices and outcomes.
Students explore different ways to use money and resources, comparing options, weighing risks and discovering which decisions work best over time. They turn abstract math concepts into practical strategies, building a personal “smart portfolio.”
Through hands-on activities, scenario-based trials and reflective analysis, students learn how structured thinking and careful planning lead to smarter decisions, developing confidence, analytical skills and financial reasoning that will help them beyond the classroom.

Masterclass 1-Comparing Choices
Explore a virtual store, compare prices and currencies and learn smart buying decisions through fun, guided money challenges for kids.

Masterclass 2-Earn It to Buy It
Earn money by completing tasks, track growth over days and experience how consistency and effort build strong financial habits early.

Masterclass 3-Save It or Spend It?
Choose between spending now or saving for future goals, helping students understand patience, planning and smarter money decisions.

Masterclass 4-The Three Choice Money Plan
Split money into safe, certain and risky choices, observe outcomes and discover how risk and reward really work together visually.
Masterclass for JuniorCHAMPS (Grade 4-6)

Masterclass 1-Smart Spending Using Math

Frequently Asked Questions

Which subjects are covered in the hackathon?
BrightCHAMPS Global Hackathon 2026 includes four core pillars of the future; Robotics, coding, financial literacy and math, across different age groups.
Is the hackathon suitable for my child’s grade level?
Yes! All activities and masterclasses in the hackathon are specially designed for each grade, ensuring age-appropriate learning and challenges.
Who can I contact for support?
You can reach out to your Academic Counsellor or BrightCHAMPS support team anytime for assistance.
What is the theme of BrightCHAMPS Global Hackathon 2026?
The themes for BrightCHAMPS Global Hackathon 2026 are divided into two. Robotics & Coding: The Turing-Tesla Challenge, which is about applying strong coding skills to real-world systems and transforming algorithms into machines. Financial Literacy & Math: The Markowitz Matrix, which focuses on applying mathematical thinking to compare choices, manage risk and make better financial decisions.
What will my child learn from participating in the Hackathon?
Students will learn to build autonomous systems, improve problem-solving and logical thinking, apply math for smart real-world decisions and gain confidence in presenting ideas on stage.
Is there a deadline to complete the Hackathon project?
Yes, each phase will have a clear timeline shared in advance to guide students smoothly.
How will the hackathon sessions be conducted?
Masterclasses will be held in groups of 8 students and conducted similar to regular BrightCHAMPS sessions, followed by project building and submissions.
