Divisibility Rule of 235

Professor Greenline Explaining Math Concepts

The divisibility rule is a way to find out whether a number is divisible by another number without using the division method. In real life, we can use the divisibility rule for quick math, dividing things evenly, and sorting things. In this topic, we will learn about the divisibility rule of 235.

What is the Divisibility Rule of 235?

The divisibility rule for 235 is a method by which we can find out if a number is divisible by 235 or not without using the division method. Check whether 470 is divisible by 235 with the divisibility rule.

Step 1: Check if the number is divisible by 5. In 470, the last digit is 0, which is divisible by 5.

Step 2: Check if the number is divisible by 47. Divide 47 into the number formed by the first two digits, 47. Since 47 is divisible by 47, the entire number is divisible by 47.

Step 3: Since 470 passes both checks for 5 and 47, it is divisible by 235

Tips and Tricks for Divisibility Rule of 235

Learning divisibility rules will help kids master division. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks for the divisibility rule of 235.

Know the multiples of 235:

Memorize the multiples of 235 (235, 470, 705, 940, etc.) to quickly check divisibility. If the result from the checks is a multiple of 235, then the number is divisible by 235.

Use the properties of divisibility:

If the number is divisible by both 5 and 47, it will also be divisible by 235.

Repeat the process for large numbers:

Students should keep repeating the divisibility process until they reach a smaller number to verify if it is divisible by 5 and 47.

For example: Check if 1175 is divisible by 235 using the divisibility test.

Divide 1175 by 5: The last digit is 5, so it is divisible by 5.

Next, check if 235 divides the remaining number: Divide 235 into 1175 and see if the result is whole.

Use the division method to verify:

Students can use the division method as a way to verify and crosscheck their results. This will help them verify and also learn.
