In roman numerals, we represent 35 as XXXV. Here, X stands for 10 and is repeated thrice (XXX) and V stands for 5. You must have seen in movie titles, for sequels we use roman numerals. To make 35, we use three X’s for 30 (since 10 + 10 + 10 = 30) and one ‘V’ for 5.

What is 35 in Roman Numerals?

The number 35 in Roman numerals is written as XXXV. In this system, X represents 10 and V represents 5. When you put three X's together (XXX), it means you add 10 three times, which equals 30. Then, you add V (5) to that total.

So, XXXV represents the number 35 in Roman numerals.

Basic Rules for Finding XXXV in Roman Numeral

Rule 1: Addition Rule

In this method, we add the larger values which follow the smaller values in Roman numerals.

Ⅹ + Ⅴ = ⅩⅤ    or    10 + 5 = 15

Rule 2: Repetition Rule

In this rule, the numbers repeat themselves to get the desired number, but the numbers cannot be repeated    more than thrice.

ⅩⅩ is 20

ⅩⅩⅩ is 30

Rule 3: Subtraction Rule

In this combination, In this rule, to find the difference, the greater number is written after the smaller number, the smaller number is subtracted from the greater one.

X - Ⅰ = Ⅸ    or    10 - 1 = 9

Rule 4: Limitation Rule

Roman numerals cannot be repeated more than thrice. This limitation cannot be used for number 4(IIII) and so on.

35 in Roman Numeral by Expansion Method

This method includes parting down numbers based on their place values like thousands, a hundred, tens, and ones respectively. Every place value is written in the form of roman numerals.

This method works as shown below:

  • Expand and part down the numbers into place values.

  • Change the place values of numbers into roman numerals.

  • Join the roman numerals to get the desired value.

So, when you combine them, 35 in the Roman Numeral is written as XXXV.

Example:

1. LXXXV:

L=50

XXX=30

V=5

Adding, 50+30+5=85, LXXXV.

35 in Roman Numeral by Grouping Method

This method involves breakdown of large numerals into small parts based on their Roman numeral values. This method works as follows:

  • Identify symbols: Look for roman numerals that should be added or subtracted together according to addition and subtraction rules, as discussed.

  • Breaking down larger numbers into smaller ones.

  • Add or subtract values of the smaller numerals.

  • So, you can group three 10s as XXX and add a V to write 35 as XXXV.

Example:

1. XCIX

X→10

C→100

IX→9

Add: (100-10)+9=99.

2. CXLIX

C→100

XL→50-10=40

IX→9

Add: 100+40+9=149.

Important Glossaries for XXXV in Roman Numerals

  • Addition Method: Combining numerals to get a larger number (e.g., XX + X = XXX).

  • Subtraction Method: Taking away a smaller numeral from a larger one (e.g., I before X means subtract 1 from 10).

  • Repetition Method: Using repeated numerals to form numbers (e.g., X = 10 and XX = 20).

  • Grouping Method: Combining smaller numerals to express a bigger number (e.g., thinking of 3 as three “I” that’s III).

  • Limitation Rule: The rule stating that certain numerals (I, X, C) can only be repeated up to three times.
