A prime number is a number that can be divisible only by 1 and the number itself. Prime numbers are used in cryptography, computer programming, etc. In this topic, we will discuss whether 33 is a prime number or not.

Is 33 a Prime Number?

On the basis of factors present, a number can be differentiated into Prime and Composite numbers. A prime number is a natural number which is divisible exactly by 1 and the number itself, whereas a composite number has more than 2 factors. Here, 33 has more than 2 factors ie. 1, 3, 11 and 33 therefore it is not a prime number.

 
Few properties of prime numbers are as follows - 

 

 

  • A prime number is always positive and greater than 1.
  • The only even prime number is number 2
  • A prime has exactly two factors: 1 and itself.

 

Since 33 has more than 2 factors(1, 3, 11, 33), it is a composite number and not a prime numbe

The number 33 can be considered composite, as it has more than two factors.

In this method, a prime number is divisible only by 2 factors : 1 and itself.
